What’s ahead @ re:Invent 2016

As a longtime AWS Premier Consulting Partner, AWS re:Invent is one of our most anticipated events of the year. Cloud computing experts and industry peers come together from all over the world for a week of collaboration and insights regarding all things AWS. This year’s event is approaching fast, taking place in Las Vegas from November 28 through December 2. Each year, re:Invent brings insightful takeaways and major highlights. Here are some that we’re most excited to see in 2016.

Hackathon

Back for its fourth year, AWS’ annual Hackathon teams up with four non-profit organizations to identify real world challenges that are then presented to the re:Invent audience. Developers and architects are challenged to build functioning prototypes to address these issues, taking place over the course of the first day. We’re looking forward to seeing this year’s most innovative solutions and the reveal of the surprise panel of judges and prizes. Be sure to stop by the Hackathon Mixer on November 27 at 7pm if you’re competing in the event!

Breakout Sessions

Whether you’re looking to learn more about big data & analytics, content delivery, or container technology, there are breakout sessions for all levels and varying industry focuses. re:Invent sessions are presented by subject matter experts, AWS engineers, solutions architects or expert customers who share their insights and lessons learned from real-world applications.

Patrick McClory, Datapipe’s VP of Public Cloud & Professional Services will be hosting an advanced session in the architecture track focused on machine image builder toolsets. This breakout session will explore what IT organizations need to do to effectively plan and execute on a strategic cloud strategy that focuses not only on the cloud, but also big data, DevOps, and security. This session will be taking place on Thursday, December 1 from 11 am to 12pm. Keep your eye on the re:Invent Portal for updates on the session location and finalized timing.

New to re:Invent this year is re:Source Mini Con, which is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a one-day mini conference exploring topics like machine learning, security and compliance, and serverless computing. Another new addition to this year’s conference is an Industry Focus Pre-Day being held on Monday, November 28 from 1pm to 6pm. This half-day of sessions are focused on IT professionals and developers looking to learn specifics about deploying on AWS.

re:Invent also offers a wide range of workshops that provide attendees a small-scale, hands-on session to learn tangible skills. These workshops are capped at about 75 attendees, so secure your spot early if you plan on attending these sessions.

Sneak Peek Preview

In addition to the highly anticipated product announcements that accompany re:Invent each year, Amazon is offering an advanced screening of the Season 2 opener of the Amazon Prime show The Man in the High Castle. The screening will be taking place on Wednesday, November 30 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. There’s no pre-registration required for the screening, but seats are first-come, first-serve.

End your week with the re:Play party, being held outdoors at the LINQ parking lot on Thursday, December 1 from 8pm to midnight. This year’s party will be a mix of new activities and favorites from years past and is sure to be filled with plenty of surprises.
