Client Spotlight: Developing Higher Efficiency with Lower Cost for Trulia

Trulia® is a vibrant home shopping marketplace, focused on giving home buyers, sellers, and renters the information they need to make better decisions. On mobile and the Web, Trulia provides house hunters with insights and unique information about properties, neighborhoods, and real estate agents. Additionally, Trulia provides information about neighborhood schools, crimes, commute times, and the real estate market.

Trulia had a prediction workflow that was recently migrated from an on-premises data center to Amazon’s Elastic Map Reduce (EMR). The workflow faced nondeterministic execution errors that were hard to troubleshoot and resulted in performance challenges. In order to overcome these challenges, Trulia turned to Datapipe.

Since working with Datapipe, Trulia has successfully executed data intensive Hadoop prediction workflows on AWS EMR, and has optimized EMR workflows by leveraging the more efficient AWS instances. On top of that, Datapipe helped Trulia achieve its goal of lowering costs without sacrificing performance or efficiency on any jobs.
