Client Spotlight: Challenger

This week I’d like to take a moment to highlight a recent client success story stemming from our Asia Pacific region. Some background: Challenger is a regional IT retailer that has expanded to over 45 stores consisting of superstores, mini stores, and music stores across Singapore. In 2012, the company started a private label, Valore, bringing affordable lifestyle and mobility accessories to its customers.

What Was the Problem?

Challenger was using an on-premises, in-house data center that wasn’t providing the infrastructure needed to scale quickly. The company’s goal was to shift from an offline mindset to an online one, creating a digital lifestyle ecosystem that would move its whole business platform to the cloud. This was not something Challenger took lightly, as it meant moving its core operational systems, including point of sales, ERP, and its entire online marketplace onto the cloud. Because of this, infrastructure was a primary concern for the retail chain.

Challenger needed a partner that would not only manage the infrastructure the company needed to scale, but could also respond quickly, implement without downtime, and account for all security concerns in the architecture.

Challenger Turns to Datapipe

Challenger landed on Datapipe because of a recommendation by Gartner that Datapipe would provide the technical support Challenger needed when migrating to AWS. With the uncertainty and concerns that come with migrating to a cloud environment, Challenger appreciated the guidance and assurance Datapipe was able to provide from the proposal stage onward.

Challenger’s rapid growth—it had nearly doubled its amount of stores in less than five years–required that its infrastructure be very responsive to the changes of its stores and outlets. Moving core components of Challenger’s business, like its e-commerce marketplace platform and payment gateways, required high levels of security, and with its 24x7x365 monitoring and technical expertise, Datapipe was able to ease security concerns from the beginning. Migrating to a cloud environment with Datapipe allowed Challenger to not only commit to its creation of a digital lifestyle ecosystem, but also accommodate the demands of the Singapore marketplace by improving its speed and agility in responding and making changes.
