An AWS re:Invent Survival Guide

View our 2016 AWS re:Invent Survival Guide

AWS re:Invent is right around the corner. If you are attending, now is the time to start planning for this non-stop four-day event. Whether you’re a developer, engineer, system admin, system architect or technical decision maker, there are myriad choices to keep your days full including more than 250 technical sessions, an equal number of breakout sessions and some really solid keynote speakers. If you’re a re:Invent regular, you are likely aware that all this can translate into a hectic four days. If you are a re:Invent newbie, it’s nearly impossible to make the most of the conference without planning ahead.

Datapipe and AWS have been working together since 2010, achieving a number of successes to bring enterprises the best service possible. This includes launching managed services for AWS, opening a Global Cloud Center of Excellence, and developing Datapipe’s Access Control Model for AWS (DACMA). We are experts when it comes to preparing for and making the most of re:Invent so we put together a few tips on how best to navigate this conference to ensure you make the most of your time in Vegas.

Schedule. Schedule. Schedule.

With more than 300 breakout sessions to choose from and over 350 vendors to visit, having a game plan in place before touching down in Las Vegas is crucial to getting the most out of re:Invent. At its core, re:Invent is a learning conference. There are more than 300 sessions taking place at this year’s conference and all of them are listed in the re:Invent session guide. Create a profile, do a search for the topics you want to learn about and start creating your conference schedule. If you are looking for sessions to attend, we’d recommend the following Datapipe sessions:

Navigating the Expo

AWS re:Invent Central is comprised of more than 350 vendors, all trying to entertain, educate and engage with you. We recommend setting aside at least half a day to walk the expo floor. In addition to swag, there are a lot of opportunities to learn about the latest and greatest AWS products, services, solutions and engage directly with the companies who are innovating on top of AWS solutions. Stop by the Datapipe booth (#220 – right next to AWS) to hear more about our long-standing history with AWS and the work we’ve been doing with the company. This year we are also hosting a series of 15-minute lightening talks at the Datapipe booth. We are excited to be featuring content from our clients, partners, and the DualSpark Team (you can read more about our acquisition of DualSpark here). We’ll be posting a full schedule on our social channels soon.

Nightlife.

It wouldn’t be a conference in Vegas without a vibrant nighttime schedule of events to take advantage of. AWS re:Invent hosts a number of nighttime events including the perennial favorite 19-venue pub crawl. You can check out a full list of AWS re:Invent after-hour events here. Vendors also host a number of nighttime events so be sure to take advantage of the networking time and rub elbows with the vendors and executives that matter most to you.

We’ll be posting some AWS re:Invent blogs in the days leading up to and during the conference. Check in for additional informational tips and announcements. You can also follow along with us on Twitter and Facebook.
