NASA recently issued a request for information, asking for assistance with making its resources run more efficiently. NASA’s data center ambitions
According to Washington Technology, the space agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center is looking to boost return on investment while reducing energy usage – in line with a federal push for 30-percent reductions in energy consumption within government data centers.
ZDNet explained that NASA identified three basic options for achieving this goal and is seeking input from vendors on the best approach:
- Use retrofit technologies as short-term, interim solutions.
- Implement standalone, containerized data center resources that serve two specific use cases.
- Deploy modular containerized data center solutions for a longer-term plan.
As the source noted, these options represent the bulk of the data center options available on the market.
